Joey Pinz Digest: Gratitude, Growth & Lessons From the Road

Hi friends,

Gratitude, Growth & Four Cities: My November Reflections
From Seattle to Copenhagen, Barcelona, and Austin — lessons from the road, new conversations, and the discipline of gratitude.
November Is About Gratitude, Not Just Thanksgiving
November has always been a special time of year in the United States. Thanksgiving brings families together, reminds us of the people who matter, and gives us an opportunity to reflect on everything we have to be grateful for.
But here’s something I’ve been thinking about lately.
Why do we wait until Thanksgiving to practice gratitude?
We spend so much of our lives chasing what’s next. The next opportunity. The next milestone. The next achievement.
And sometimes, in the middle of all that ambition, we forget to appreciate how far we’ve already come.
I’ve been fortunate to meet extraordinary people, travel to incredible places, and have conversations that challenge how I see the world.
None of that happens alone.
There are people behind every success, every opportunity, and every new chapter.
As we enter November, my challenge to myself — and to you — is simple:
Don’t just be grateful for what you have. Be intentional about showing it.
Gratitude is more than a feeling. It’s a discipline.
From Seattle to Copenhagen, Barcelona, and Austin: Lessons From the Road
What a stretch of travel!
Over the past several weeks, I’ve been moving between airports, hotels, conference centers, and podcast conversations.
The journey included:
- Seattle: Thread AI & Automation, where conversations centered on how artificial intelligence is reshaping business.
- Copenhagen: Pax8 Beyond EMEA, where I connected with MSP leaders and technology executives from across Europe.
- Barcelona: MSP Global, another opportunity to experience the international technology community.
- Austin: NinjaOne NXT, bringing the conversation back to the United States and the future of the MSP industry.
Different cities. Different cultures. Different perspectives.
But something struck me throughout these experiences.
No matter where we live or what business we’re in, so many of our challenges are remarkably similar.
We want to build something meaningful. We want to grow. We want to create better opportunities for ourselves, our families, and the people around us.
And we want to figure out how to navigate a world that never seems to stop changing.
One of the things I love most about hosting Joey Pinz Discipline Conversations is having the opportunity to listen.
Not just interview people. Really listen.
Every conversation reminds me that we can learn something from someone else, regardless of their title, background, or location.
Travel can be exhausting. But the relationships, experiences, and perspectives make it worthwhile.
The lesson? Never become so comfortable with what you know that you stop being curious about what you don’t.
Different Cities. Different Leaders. One Common Thread: Change.
If there was one recurring theme throughout my recent travels, it was change.
Artificial intelligence. Automation. New business models. Shifting customer expectations.
Technology is moving quickly, and businesses everywhere are trying to determine what comes next.
But I think there’s a much bigger lesson here that goes beyond technology.
Change doesn’t wait until we’re ready.
Whether you’re running a company, starting a new career, working on your health, or trying to improve a relationship, life constantly presents us with situations that require adaptation.
And that’s where discipline becomes so important.
Motivation might get us started. Excitement might carry us through the beginning.
But when circumstances change, discipline is what helps us keep moving.
I’ve spoken with hundreds of people over the years who have reinvented themselves, overcome adversity, or made difficult decisions to pursue something better.
The common denominator isn’t that they had all the answers.
It’s that they were willing to take the next step.
Growth rarely happens when everything is comfortable.
Sometimes, the biggest opportunities come from being willing to change.
Eight New Conversations. Eight Different Lessons About Life.
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey continues to be the people who join me on the podcast.

The Discipline of Slowing Down When Life Speeds Up
After spending so much time on the road, I’ve been thinking about something that seems almost contradictory.
We talk constantly about discipline, consistency, productivity, and doing the work.
But what about the discipline to slow down?
The discipline to put the phone away.
To be present during a conversation.
To spend time with people we love without thinking about the next thing on the calendar.
To recognize that being busy and being fulfilled aren’t necessarily the same thing.
I’m someone who enjoys staying active, building businesses, meeting people, and pursuing new opportunities.
And I don’t intend to stop.
But as Thanksgiving approaches, I’m reminded that success means very little if we’re too distracted to appreciate it.
Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is simply be present.
So here’s my challenge for November:
Take a few minutes each day to recognize something you’re grateful for. Reach out to someone who has made a difference in your life. Make time for the people who matter.
And don’t wait for a holiday to do it.
One Final Thought
Discipline isn’t just about what we accomplish. It’s about how intentionally we live.
Thank you for being part of this journey, for listening to the conversations, and for continuing to grow alongside me.
Wishing you and your family a meaningful November.
